Laura read Law at Kingston University, graduating with Honours and completed the Legal Practice Course in London. She qualified as a solicitor in 1992 and joined the firm in 1997, becoming a Partner in 2001.
Since qualification, Laura has specialised in all areas of Family Law and Property Matters. She deals with Divorce, Civil Partnerships, Financial Matters on Divorce or Separation, Cohabitee Claims, Children Issues and Pre Nuptial Agreements. Laura is a Resolution Family Lawyer and a Collaborative Trained Family Lawyer. She also undertakes Residential Property matters and can advise on all aspects of buying and selling residential property, including issues around jointly owned property, Transfers of Equity and Declarations of Trust.
In 2009 Laura obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Notarial Practice from the University of Cambridge and qualified as a Notary Public in 2010. She practices as a Notary Public, which is entirely separate from the solicitors’ practice of Gumersalls, although she does work from the same office. She is able to offer advice and assistance on the completion and authentication of documents required for abroad, verification of identity, certified copies of documents and legalisation requirements.
Away from the office, Laura takes great pleasure in being with her family (husband, two children and the dog!) and they enjoy travelling and activities together. Laura is also an avid Netball fan, having played since University.

Originally from Cornwall, Deborah attended Buckingham University, Chester College of Law and trained in Nottingham before qualifying as a solicitor in 1990. After working for just over 10 years in Kingston upon Thames, she joined Gumersalls in 2001 and became a Partner in 2003.
Deborah has always specialised in the administration of estates and the management of elderly clients’ affairs. She is a member of the Law Society Private Client Section and the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners (‘STEP’).
In her leisure time Deborah enjoys reading, music and art.

Tom read History at the University of York, then completed the Graduate Diploma in Law and the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in the same city. He qualified as a solicitor in 2007 and joined the Private Client team at Gumersalls the following year, becoming a Partner in 2013.
Tom specialises in Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney, Court of Protection applications and the management of elderly clients’ affairs and has done so since joining the firm, helping many families and individuals. He is an Affiliate Member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (‘STEP’) and achieved the STEP Advanced Certificate in Will Preparation (England and Wales) with Distinction.
Tom is also a Full Accredited Member of Solicitors for the Elderly and a Dementia Friend.
Away from the office, Tom enjoys spending time with his family, attending his church and supporting Liverpool FC.

Rita completed her LLB with Honours and qualified as a solicitor in 2005. She has always specialised in Family Law and has acquired a vast amount of experience in all aspects of this area. She is a member of the Family Panel with the Law Society and with Resolution.
Rita joined Gumersalls in 2022 as an Associate Solicitor. She provides specialist advice to our array of clients. Her passion for Family Law enables her to give practical and sound advice during emotional times, whilst looking out for her clients’ best interests.
When not working Rita enjoys travelling, board games, socialising with family and friends, music and loves playing badminton.

Charles joined the firm in 1969 after training in Leatherhead and completing the Solicitors examination, being admitted in January 1970.
He has dealt with a wide variety of non-litigious matters but has always specialised in property law. Having been a Partner for many years, Charles became a Consultant in April 2024.
Charles is proud to be dealing with buying properties for the grandchildren of his original clients.

Gill joined Gumersalls in October 2013 and works as a Legal Secretary to partner Tom Edwards in the Private Client department dealing specifically with Wills, Powers of Attorney, Court of Protection and Management of Affairs for our clients.
She has been a Legal Secretary for over 15 years and prior to that she worked in the financial sector as a bank manager and in the insurance industry.
In Gill’s spare time she volunteers as a magistrate, which she has done for over 20 years and she enjoys helping take care of her two grandsons and an assortment of animals.

Alison joined Gumersalls as a part-time secretary in 2004, after taking a career break to have a family, having previously worked in administration roles within the insurance industry.
Throughout her years at Gumersalls, Alison has primarily worked within the conveyancing department providing secretarial and admin support. She also now assists the Family and Notary departments.
Outside of the office Alison enjoys spending time with her family and friends, baking and reading. With her youngest daughter playing Korfball at club and international level she also enjoys supporting by watching games, along with her husband and eldest daughter.

Zoe joined our team as a legal secretary in 2008 having had a varied work history involving customer service, administrative work, accounting and experience with elderly clients.
She has been assisting the fee earners in the private client department with the administration of estates, trusts and the management of elderly clients’ affairs since she joined us and has a particular interest in the administration of estates.
When she is not in the office, Zoe spends most of her time with her fiancé and their cats. Zoe’s hobbies include reading, walking and nature photography.

Carol took a secretarial course at the Kingston College of Further Education. She joined our team as a legal secretary in 1976, having previously worked for a firm dealing with the refurbishment of pubs, clubs, hotels and leisure centres.
She has been assisting the fee earners in the conveyancing department with the selling and buying of houses for over 40 years.
When she is not in the office, Carol spends most of her time with her family. Her hobbies include gardening, visiting garden centres, reading and going to the cinema.

Nikki has been with us since January 2016. She has worked as a legal secretary for over 35 years, only taking time out for a brief period to bring up her two children.
She started work as a legal secretary in London after completing her A levels at College working for commercial and medical solicitors dealing with all aspects of commercial and residential conveyancing. After having her children, she worked locally continuing as a residential conveyancing legal secretary. She now works at Gumersalls dealing with all residential conveyancing matters to include sales, purchases, re-mortgages, transfers of equity etc.
In her spare time Nikki likes travelling, walking, reading and does ballroom and latin dancing with her husband.

Nick joined us as our Office Manager in 2021. He is likely to be the first person you speak to when you telephone the office with an enquiry and helps with the general day to day running of the office. He also assists the private client department with property and client visits.
Nick was involved within the print industry for more than 20 years and ran his own print company for 10 years before he joined the team.
Outside of the office, he likes to spend time with his family and friends, enjoys going to watch football matches and likes to play golf. He is an avid skier and enjoys travelling – going on a trip to see a cricket tour in Australia or the West Indies is on his bucket list!
