Splitting financial assets following a divorce is always complicated, but it could be more difficult in the case of billionaire Rupert Murdoch and his wife Jerry Hall, who are rumoured to be separating.
The New York Times has reported that the 91-year-old is walking away from his fourth marriage with the 65-year-old former model six years after walking down the aisle.
At the time of their wedding in 2016, the media mogul tweeted: “Feel like the luckiest AND happiest man in the world [sic].”
Mr Murdoch, who controls major news outlets, including Fox News and the Wall Street Journal, as well as The Times and The Sun, has been married three times before. However, this is just the second marriage for Ms Hall, who previously wed Rolling Stones’ frontman Mick Jagger, before getting their partnership annulled nine years later.
If true, the divorce comes as a shock to many close to the couple, with one friend telling the Guardian before their nuptials: “They are very sweet together, in a little couple bubble. They act like a married couple already, talking over each other, holding hands.”
According to Forbes, Mr Murdoch is currently worth a staggering $18.8 billion (£15.45 billion), making him the 31st richest person in the US. He is also the 76th richest person in the world.
Elon Musk tops Forbes’ list, with the Tesla chief being worth an impressive $222.2 billion.
How much Ms Hall is entitled to depends on whether they had a pre-nuptial arrangement in place before they tied the knot.
